I find the whole area of blogging fascinating, not only the written ones but the electronic videos and more. The History channel had a progam that dealt with the troops in Iraq and Afganistan showing how their Blogs may be the best source of what is really going on in both countries.
Were I forty years younger I might be one of them. I kept diaries and asked my parents to save all my letters from Vietnam, today these would have probably been in blog form.

Surgery Update
Each day I feel a little stronger. Today I had my second PT workout and I mean workout!
I'm trying to work on my workshop project, but was so exhausted after the workout I feel asleep.
The biggest problem with keeping a blog is being married to someone who doesn't understand the net or what it can do.
To my wife any time spent on the internet that she doesn't want me on the internet is wasting time that could be spent on what she wants done. If it's directions, a powerpoint, or if she needs an article for her practice she is all for me getting on the net and taking care of her business. Get on for any other reason and as soon as she sees me the yelling starts, "You on that d**m computer again! You have a girlfriend or something? you need to keep in touch with? Get out her and take care of what I want done!"
So obviously, she'll not know the exiestence of this blog.

Surgery
Well my friends, I knew I was scheduled to have total knee surgery on November 15th. So I was deglicting blogging and a few other academic tasks to try and get all the yard work that needed done before I'd be laid up. Plus I had students in ever day doing research projects in the Media Center and I was doin a lot of one-on-one with them. Didn't leave a lot of time to what my wife calls "goofing off".
The doctor told me it would be like "falling off a log". In the hospital 4 days, 3 nights then go home with home care nursing and physical therapy. Be back on my feet in 4-6 weeks.
So far the only correct thing is that I had surgery on November 15th. In the words of my doctor, through his Phusician's Assistant, my knee was so messed up it qualifies as among the worset he has seen. I apparently lost a lost of blood because my blood count fell from 14 to 8.3. Sop I was kept int he hospital two extra days and received 2 units of blood. When it reached 9.5 they let me come home.
I've been home for two days now and the report today is that my blood count is up to 10. PT has been out and wore me out.
Hopefully I can get back to work on the workshop assignments tomorrow.

I set up a flickr account and have begun uploading pictures from my Vietnam files. Even got a message from someone saying they enjoyed looking at them.

I'll be in the car
I had the opportunity yesterday to attend a luncheon that featured a young author named Annette Januzzi Wick. She has written "I'll be in the car" the story of her life with her husband and young son during the period he was diagnosed with leukemia. Her detailed letters home to her mother formed the basis for the book.
You can learn more about her and the book at: http://www.illbeinthecar.com/

Bookmarks
Another idea that I will be exploring at work. The idea of being able to better tag my book marks is wonderful. My current list is so huge, it would be nice to be able to call up the related ones.
Technology
This has been a good week at work. I spent several days working with students doing research for a Language Arts class. I was showing them how to do more effective searches. Now after spending 2 days looking at other ways to search and other places to search I wish we could go back a few days and do it again.
There is so much out here that it boggles the mind. Perhaps more than the average student can comprehend.

Who am I
Like a cat I have had many "lives".
I served in Vietnam during 1969, as a Hospital Corpsman attached to Alpha Company 1st Battalion 4th Marines, other medical duties took me to Camp Lejeune North Carolina and the US Navy Shipyard Dispensary in Philadelphia, where I learned basic pharmacy.
Since I was due to return to Vietnam in 1971, I chose to instead get out of the Navy and go to college. I graduated in 1975 with a Bachelors Degree in what was then known as "Speech and Theatre".
Following graduation I worked for almost 20 years in health care doing Public Relations and Marketing. When our hospital merged in 1994 all of us with experience (and high? salaries) were laid off. I went to work in Retail Advertising for the Morning Journal.
Around 1998 my wife finished her Master's in nursing and went into private practice and asked me what I wanted to do. I told her "teach".
So I became a stay at home dad to our our sons(3 and 5) and began taking the courses I needed to become certified as a Teacher.
In 2000 I completed that work and received my certification.
After a couple years of subbing I was approached about becoming a Media Specialist for our district (longer story another time). I said yes and before I could even enrole in the School at Kent State the opportunity to obtain a full scholarship became available. I applied and was accepted and received one of the first 12 scholarship offered.
In 2006 I completed my course work and am now a licensed Media Specialist for a large Northern Ohio high school.

This will be my second attempt to establish a blog. My first still exists somewhere in in hyper-space along with the web page I created eight years ago.
This blog is being created as part of a workshop on searching the internet.
More later.
